Yeah…it’s changing out there and for some, not the better. The Winter means scooter riding becomes less frequent and your bike will be sitting for long stints while the roads are covered in snow. In order to make certain you don’t have to make a visit to the mechanic come Spring, there are a few precautionary measures you should take.
Buy a battery tender….
A battery tender is a little device that attaches to your batter and allows it to charge your scoot’s battery when it hasn’t been used for a long time. Not only does it help keep your battery fresh, it actually lengthens its life.
Pick up some Sta-bil…
Sta-bil is a safe fuel additive that will allow your gas to sit in the tank for up to 12 months without going bad. In reality, gas can go bad in only a couple of months and can cause bad starts, back firing and other issues. If you think your bike is going to be sitting for a while, Sta-bil is a cheap way to keep it fresh.
Buy a cover….
Even if your scoot is sitting in a garage and is protected from the elements, you still can have issues with dirt and dust. A cover is a simple way to ensure that your bike stays clean. Also, a cover is a great tool during normal months for keeping people from messing with your bike. If you park in one place all day, a cover tells people to back off.
There’s no question that we all want to protect our scoots and our investment. With these simple things (all of them quite cheap I might add), you can keep that ride ready for the road until the thaw.
