Sunday Morning in Davis!

This weekend is our August ride and we want to remind all club members that WE WILL NOT BE MEETING IN OGDEN. Yes, this time around we will beginning our ride at the Grounds for Coffee in Layton for a tour of Davis county, Yes, we will be seeking an adventure and proposing a number of fun options to see what rider’s would like to check out in the county to the South.

Keep in mind, we will still meet at 10:00 AM but hope more of our friends in SLC will join us for the ride.

Davis County here we come!

In the short life of our club, we have been doing regular rides from Ogden’s Union Station. However, the dog days of summer are upon us and we felt it was time for a change. Our next ride will be focused on Northern Davis county.

Beginning at the “Grounds for Coffee” on Highway 89, we will ride through the winding streets of Layton, Kaysville, Fruit Heights and maybe even touch a bit in Farmington. Our hope is to find some new roads, new sites and new adventures.

Grounds for Coffee - Layton

As always, we will be meeting at 10:00 AM but this time we will be adventuring South and West instead of North and East. We welcome suggestions for dining along the route. As always, we prefer local businesses with a unique flair.

We finally did it!

Yes, after three attempts, we finally made it around Pineview and it was a glorious day. The weather was warm but comfortable on the scoots. We had blue skies and a great ride. Our day started at it’s normal launching point but after some weaving through Ogden, we climbed up the canyon.

Once up in the valley, we took a stop at the beach in Pineview to enjoy the views and take a quick break. We then rode to Eden where we lunched (breakfast for a couple) at Carlos and Harley’s. The food and atmosphere was great. We even got a couple stickers posted for the club.

Over lunch, RJ was kind enough to educate us on the methods of group riding. As a former office of the law and chapter president to a Gold Wing club, he shared his wisdom and experience with our group. It was nice to learn something new and improve the safety of our rides.

Finally, we navigated around the reservoir and finished up back in Ogden. In all, it was a lot of fun and another great ride for our group. Thanks to all who attended.

An Invitation…Grand Junction, Colorado

I am pleased to announce we have received an invitation as a club to join the High Desert Scooterists in Grand Junction, Colorado on the weekend of August 14th to the 17th. Grand Junction is only a short five hour drive from Ogden and they have a lot of cool sponsors. Check out the link for more information:

Gathering

Beating the Heat!

One thing I find amazing about riding my scoot is how cool it is even when the sun is blazing and temperatures are in the upper 90s. I noted this when I lived in Bangkok. It could be above 100 and 80% humidity and as long as I was moving, it was like I had built in air conditioning.

Recently I have been commuting to work on my scoot and while it’s a short trip, it really gives me a cool, refreshing way to start the day. So, if you only take your scooter out on the weekend, you may want to consider enjoying our bright sunshine and warm

Here is a a little Post-Rock track to enjoy called “Ninho de Vespas.” Great cruising music.

Change is inevitable!

Half way through April’s ride, most of us were frozen and welcomed a meal at the Oaks. So, June was supposed to be our shot at circumnavigating Pineview on our bikes. However, upon arriving at the Canyon we discovered that our plans were thwarted by a short “paving project.” Strange since they repaved the entire canyon last year. Regardless, our plans had to change and we ended up taking a route along the bench and then up to a great lookout over the valley on the road to North Ogden Divide.

We welcomed three new members and our two new Vespa’s to our mix. It was a lot of fun getting out on a beautiful day and taking a run along the bench. I still viewed the ride as a success as we enjoyed each other’s company with a breakfast at Karen’s cafe.

Next month we plan to have two rides with a Saturday run in Ogden and a Davis county ride on Sunday giving us all a chance to make the most of the great weather in July.

Our sticker made it to Amerivespa!

Our sticker made it to Amerivespa!

As much as I would have loved to attend Amerivespa, the timing of this year’s event coincided with my daughter’s graduation from high school As such, it was impossible to make the trek to New Orleans. Still, while I couldn’t be there, our club was there in spirit. Note the sticker at the center of the top box.

June Ride on the Calendar

I am torn. We have a pretty good showing for our Sunday rides but we also don’t want to exclude people who want to ride on Saturdays. If you have a genuine interest for Saturday morning runs, drop an email to ride@twobitscooterclub.com and if we have enough interest, we will either add an additional ride each month or we will make the change. For now, the next club ride is scheduled for Sunday June 22nd.

Westward Ho!

Westward Ho!

What a fun ride! The group of us took a turn to the west and road out to Willard Bay. The run was a lot different than our last ride which took us along the mountains. The landscape was wide, flat and filled with great views and interesting smells (cow, skunk, flowers and others). We stopped along the way at Utah’s iconic store called “Smith and Edwards” for a quick photo and then mid-ride arrived at Willard Bay.

Located along the Great Salt Lake, we enjoyed a nice breeze and short break. Our ride continued along 89 and then onto the winding “Pleasant View” drive. Our ride finished at “Andy’s,” in Harrisville for a delicious Greek brunch. In all, it was a great ride with great company.

Spring Showers

While we canceled last month’s event, we did end up doing a short ride in the morning. I got an enthusiastic email from our newest member and he was very disappointed we weren’t planning on a ride. We did get together for a short jaunt before the skies began to turn ugly and it did eventually rain.  Skitch got a chance to try out my Vespa and we did enjoy some brief sunshine before it got very cold.

Recent weather is giving us a little concern but the forecast is for increasing warmth and it’s looking good for the 18th. If you haven’t RSVP’d for the event, please do so we can get a head count. We are still making plans of our route but we have some fun ideas in the mix. Posters will be going out over the next week.

April Ride is Canceled.

Unfortunately, forecasts for Sunday are not promising with cold and rain expected. I have had a couple email messages indicating that people don’t want to ride in this weather. In addition, Salt Lake is having a ride on Sunday at noon. For those of you who are die hards, we suggest taking the trip to SLC to join up with their ride.

Our apologies…if anyone is interested in just riding for a short bit…drop and email to ride@twobitscooterclub.com! I am scheduling a new ride for May.

Riding in Groups

The joy of having a scooter club is the “club” element itself. Riding in a group is a lot fun as you share the road and camaraderie. This video is a great introduction about riding in groups and helps you understand some of the key safety aspects of riding with others. It’s easy to assume that it’s like riding in traffic but in fact, there are a lot of different aspects to riding together. In fact, when Skitch and I started scooting together, I insisted he followed or lead instead of riding side by side. I needed to know he was confident in his scooter skills before I felt comfortable letting him ride as a wingman. He now controls his bike with grace!

Salt Lake City Scooter Rides

Salt Lake City Scooter Rides

There is a ride each month in SLC. I will add these to our schedule and I encourage you to invite anyone from our big sister down south to join our rides. In addition, while we do have a conflict on the April ride, I will make an effort to schedule opposite their rides.
