Our inaugural ride was held last Sunday and while it was only five of us, it was a BLAST! Our first ride as a club took us down Washington Boulevard, up along the bench and the Mountain Road and then up Ogden Canyon. We stopped for a delicious brunch at the Oaks where we had a great chat. Our ride finished back down the canyon and along the Ogden River. In all, it was a beautiful (albeit cold) ride and a lot of fun. Thanks to John, Sonya, Shad, Jeff and Mike for making it a success. Check out the Flickr gallery for ride images.
Optimistic
Yes, we awoke to an inch of snow on the ground but by late morning, it had all melted. The forecast is looking very promising for an amazing Sunday scooter ride. If you haven’t registered, do so now. I will be emailing our map later in the week!
Late Winter Ride
Frankenstein Scooters to Dracula’s Castle
Video about the road trip written about in new scooter travel book ‘Frankenstein Scooters to Dracula’s Castle’ Italy to Istanbul on 400cc Suzuki-engined Maicoletta, and a couple of Lambrettas …by Martin ‘Sticky’ Round… watch out for a review of the book soon!
Warmer Weather
The weather has been warming and the excitement for our first club ride is building. However, we will be watching the forecast. Anyone living in Utah knows that winter can sneak up on us. Should any sudden snow or ice storms enter prior to the event, we will call it at least 48 hours before. If you are planning on attending but have not registered, please do so before the event so that you can be notified if there is any change.

Sahara D’s
I had this fantastic sent to me by Carlos from the Lambretta Club of South Africa, (thanks Carlos!) It’s of a couple of French guys (although I think they actually may be from the french speaking part of Switzerland, from the writing on the ‘topbox’ flag on the laid down Lammie)… on route from Lausanne to “le Cap”. The pic was taken in the Sahara! That’s quite a trip! Carlos reckons it was sometime in the ’50’s. I love their style… baggy trousers, a pair of stout brogues, beatnik beards and a nice tweed sports jacket for when it gets a bit chilly. They bred ’em tough in them days.
Thanks again Carlos, and Andy for forwarding it on. If YOU have any old Lambretta shots, I’d love to see them, and post them up here.
2 Best Oddities… Skullduggery & Egyptian Swan
Cards on the table… I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again. I’m not really into choppers. So I’ve ummed and ahhed about putting these two scoots in. They’ve been on eBay for a while, and the owner isn’t really bothered about selling them, unless he gets the right price. (£10k each) When you read the story that goes with them, you’ll understand why, and understand why I’ve written this post. Because, although I may not be into chops, I am into Lambrettas, a good story, passion, commitment and vision. And that is what it took Nipper to build ’em.
If they tickle your fancy, or float your boat, you can buy Skullduggery on eBay here or Egyptian Swan here
I won’t insult your intelligence by telling you which one’s which 🙂

Even if, like me, you don’t quite “get” the chopper thing, pop over to eBay and…

How to paint a Lambretta in 3 minutes and 25 seconds
Ordu, Texas
The longevity and the passion that the Vespa inspires is being documented in a film. Check out this trailer.
IOM S-Type
Just another S-Type pic I stumbled upon on the web somewhere. I’ve done an image search, but I can’t find anything more about this scoot, but just from the little details you can pick out you know it’s a stunner. The trimmed headlight peak, the balloon grips, the candy striped leg shield trim… all hint to a cracker of a scoot. If it’s yours… I’d love to feature it on the blog.
High Rollers Hiatus
Unfortunately, we will not be going to the High Rollers Weekend. My offices will be moving to a new location and I have to supervise the transition from one locale to another. The weekend will be the only time I can make certain the move is a success. I guess it will be next year!
In a mason jar!
Business Cards Arrive
We received our business card order yesterday and they look great. Pretty amazing for $8 from Vistaprint. They have a nice slick surface. Members will be given a small allocation to place on scooters. If you see a scoot on the street, stuff one of these babies where the rider will find it and maybe we will get another member! They are also good to put on coffee shop bulletin boards that are way overpopulated with flyers. However, we will be doing a flyer as well to put up in early March.
Drive By Absuer
So…strange thing here with NSFW language. This cartoon character rides around “considers” different topics and hurls abuse.
Proper Mod TV. And it could be yours.
Well, its been sold apparently, but it is a thing of beauty just the same.
So, if you read the Richard Barnes Mod! book that I posted about a few days ago, or you’ve watched Quadrophenia recently, and you’ve decided a Mod Lambretta is the way to go, IMHO you couldn’t do much worse that buying this little beauty, a fully loaded, chromed and accessorised TV175. The secret, again, in my ever so humble opinion, is taste. Knowing when to stop. Knowing exactly what accessories (absolutely period perfect of course) to include, and what to leave off. And if these pics are ringing any bells, it may be that you’ve either seen the scoot in the flesh, or in one of the articles about it in Scootering . It’s even been a cover star on that esteemed publication.
Read the eBay description for the full story of this cracker, read the Mods! book, Check out my Scooterist Miscellany links for clobber and the…

Great Vintage of imagery Lambrettas in Italy
Fantastic collation of original Lambretta imagery from the City of Paola, in Calabria, Southern Italy. Put together by Paolo Perotta.
Scooterist Down!
A well known Scooterist in LA and big advocate of scooters in general, John Moro, had a terrible accident. There is a small fund raising effort underway to help him out with the costly recovery. On Modern Vespa there have been many people authenticating him and his big contribution to scootering in the US.
Lambretta Trike

Don’t know anything about this… I found it on Christian Dorat’s Facebook page, always an excellent source of fantastic Lambretta imagery, often featuring a scantily clad lady as a bonus prize! If you own this scoot, or know who does, please get in touch and tell me more.
