Sweet Ride…

I can’t explain it, but I have a thing for Vespa’s. They are forever adorable. While others are dreaming of trading up for a more expensive and lavish vehicle, I’m dreaming of a Classic Vespa. With roots in Italy and its public debut at the Milan fair, it has a romantic vibe that calls out for a relaxed tour around town. Really, it’s the colors that put me over the edge. I’m dying over summer pastels in green, blue, yellow and pink options. Living in a beach community, where parking is always a challenge, a Vespa would be ideal for all those quick trips that are close to home. And soo fun to ride! ♥

Coffee break at the halfway point. 25 miles on a sunny 32 degree day. Frosty and I felt some windchill but it was worth it. Getting ready for Vegas weekender…

Utah Motorcycle Training

Utah Motorcycle Training

A scooter is a motorcycle. A lot of people think that it’s easier to ride or less complicated. In some aspects, that’s true. However, a scooter is more agile and that means you need to have more sensitivity in your control. If you haven’t had a lot of experience riding, a great way to learn is to take a motorcycle training class. These classes teach you more than the basic operating instructions. They help you learn how to be a defensive rider, constantly aware of your bike and the “cagers” surrounding you on the road.

If you are completely new to riding, these classes actually allow you to get your license without taking the road portion of the test. Your completion of the class acts as a certification for the DMV. If you have your license, but are still a little wet behind the ears, a good class will give you the confidence you need to be comfortable on your scoot.

The amazing cardboard sculptures of Chris Gilmour

Well, after a couple of posts about wooden Vespa’s… I thought it was time for a cardboard Lambretta!

Zoom_17
It’s kind of hard to believe, but this beauty is made out of two things only. Cardboard and glue. And that’s it. No wooden frame. No hidden supporting metal structure. It’s one of the self imposed restrictions artist Chris Gilmour adheres to when creating his art. And it art, of the highest quality in my opinion. There’s something about taking cardboard, that humblest of materials, so often overlooked and discarded and creating something beautiful. Something that makes you look afresh at the original objects too. I don’t know if I’ve got Chris’s vision… but that’s my personal take. And it’s not just scooters and other vehicles (although they are my favourites) … Chris has created everything from wheelchairs to typewriters… microscopes to lifesize sculptures of Queen Victoria…
